Maria Serrat Martín, General Director of the Liceu Conservatory, and Álvaro Bermejo González, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universidad del Atlántico opened the First International Guitar Meeting of the Universidad del Atlántico. The Festival began on November 23th with the lecture “From Sor to Tárrega, the imprint of Catalonia on the Guitar” by Guillem Perez-Quer, Head of the Guitar Department and Professor of the Liceu Conservatory.
The meeting was held from November 23th to 27th 2020 in a virtual way and offered lectures, talks, workshops and masterclasses by professors from various educational institutions in Colombia. The organization of the meeting was led by Julián Cardona, a guitar professor at the University from the Atlantic and former student of the Liceu Conservatory.
The School for Arts of the Universidad del Atlántico is located in the city of Barranquilla and was founded in 1940. Is considered to be the main higher education institution in the Colombian Caribbean area. As Dean Álvaro Bermejo says: “With 80 years of existence, Bellas Artes, through its artistic-educational processes, primarily impacts the cultural dynamics of the Colombian Caribbean, since it has the oldest artistic training programs at a higher level throughout the region, which have been uninterruptedly teaching for several generations, becoming a milestone in the history of artistic training in the country“. The Bellas Artes School currently has 5 professional programs: Plastic Arts, Bachelor of Music, Dramatic Art, Dance and Music.
This Agreement is part of the international program of the Liceu Conservatory Foundation and of its Collaboration Program with Ibero-America, which began in 2001, and through which academic and artistic activities are developed in different countries of the region.
