Students that want to study at the Liceu Conservatory must meet the specific academic requirements for each programme and pass the entrance exams and auditions:
They must also comply with visa requirements and residence permits established according to their country of origin.
VISAS AND REQUIREMENTS
For European Union Students
Visa and registration
Students who are EU citizens have no legal formalities to complete before coming to Spain.
Students who are citizens of one Member State of the European Union or European Economic Area member state, or to the Swiss Confederation as well, who intend to live in Spain for a period of time longer than three months, must register at the Central Registry Office for Foreigners (Registro Central de Extranjeros) in order to be issued a certificate of registration and an identity number for foreigners (NIE – Número de Identificación de Extranjeros).
The certificate of registration must be obtained at a National Police Station of the place where you are living.
The documents you will need are the following:
- Two photocopies of the registration form
- A valid passport or national identity card (original and one photocopy)
- Original and copy of your registration or admission letter
- Medical Insurance
- Sworn statement of having economic means during your stay in Spain
Health insurance
All foreign students studying in Spain must be covered by medical insurance.
Students who are citizens of one Member State of the European Union, or from Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland, who are insured or covered by public social security, they are entitled to the European Health Card (TSE). .
You can obtain a card for free by contacting your national health insurance agency, given that each country is responsible for producing and distributing the card in its territory.

For students from outside European Union
Foreign students must acquire a student visa at the Spanish Embassy in their home country. To obtain this visa, you must be enrolled in the Conservatory and follow the following procedure:
- Apply to the specific program (Higher Education, masters) according to the requirements of each program.
- Once the application is approved by the Academic Department and the enrolment is complete, the Conservatory will send the necessary documentation to acquire the student visa to the Spanish Embassy in your country.
- The student should be in Barcelona as specified by the academic schedule to perform either the official entrance exams, the level evaluation or auditions, and to complete registration.
- Official registration as well as payment of the course tuition is an essential requirement for obtaining the student card at the Subdelegación del Gobierno Civil in Barcelona, and therefore for your study at the Conservatory.

STUDENT RESIDENCE CARD FOR FOREIGNERS (TIE)
Those non-EU citizens who are going to study in Spain for a period of more than six months have to apply for a visa for studies (type D). This type of visa (Visado D Estudios, Investigación) is valid for three months for entering the Schengen Area and once you have entered Spain you have to obtain the Student Residence Card for Foreigners (TIE) in order to remain legally in Spain. The TIE is a temporary permit that allows you to stay in the country for the period of your studies. The card is valid for a maximum of one academic year and can be renewed annually until you finish your studies. Your academic results will be taken into account when renewing your permit. The document gives you the right to remain legally in the country while you study.
You will have a maximum of 30 days after entering the European Union to begin the process of applying for the Student Residence Card (TIE). For this, you will be required to present your flight ticket (boarding card) or the stamp on your passport showing the date in which you entered the European Union.
