On 5 July, a jazz trio made up of students from the Liceu Conservatory took part in the Kraków Summer Jazz Festival as part of the institutional collaboration between the Liceu Conservatory Foundation and the Cervantes Institute in Kraków. The concerts, held in Szczepański Square and at the Harris Piano Jazz Bar, formed part of the programme for one of Europe’s leading jazz festivals.
The Liceu Conservatory ensemble shared this experience with an Italian group in a concert dedicated to the music of Italian, Spanish and Polish cinema. The programme offered a fresh perspective on some of the most iconic soundtracks from these film industries, reinterpreted through the language of jazz, combining respect for tradition with scope for improvisation and creativity.
The Liceu Conservatory Jazz Trio, comprising Jana Gallifa (piano), Martín Gros (double bass) and Miguel Robles (drums), worked under the artistic direction of Sergi Vergés, head of the Department of Jazz and Modern Music at the Liceu Conservatory. The three students, currently in the final stage of their higher education, presented a programme that highlighted their interpretative skill and artistic personality. It is also worth noting that two of them, Jana Gallifa and Martín Gros, are scholarship holders of the Ferrer Music Foundation.
Taking part in this international festival represents a new opportunity for students at the Liceu Conservatory to develop their artistic practice in a professional setting and before an international audience, whilst also contributing to the promotion of music and emerging talent beyond our borders.
Through this initiative, the Liceu Conservatory Foundation is strengthening its collaboration with the Cervantes Institute in Kraków and its commitment to promoting the international profile of its students, by encouraging participation in leading festivals and programmes that foster cultural exchange and the presence of new performers on the European music scene.
