Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts is synonymous with great music and musical wisdom shared by the greatest performers and creators.
This concert series reaches its eighth edition this year, reaffirming itself as one of the most interesting initiatives of its kind, and, as always expected, a meeting point for the students of the Higher Center of the Liceu Conservatory with the great international masters, and as an appointment for music lovers from Barcelona with the best music.
The season opened with a visit to the Liceu Conservatory by the German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter who, as one of the greatest violin soloists of our time, gave Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts a luxurious start and allowed the attendees who filled the Conservatori Liceu Auditorium to live an unforgettable musical experience.
Until May 2023 Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts will offer 30 master classes and 4 concerts. The visit to the Conservatory of Evgeni Kissin, one of today’s most admired pianists, will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the season, but pianists will also be able to enjoy a masterclass by the extraordinary Spanish pianist Javier Perianes and one of the great current experts in vocal accompaniment, such as Mark Hastings.
The concert series is also pleased to present some of the most outstanding names in the performance of wind instruments, such as Emmanuel Pahud, Jacques Zoon, Axel Benoit or Gilles Milleri, some of them already old acquaintances from the Liceu Cambra. They will also visit the Center to offer their expert vision of the performance of references from the world of strings such as Pavel Vernikov, Patrice Fontanarosa, Stephanie Baer or Gary Hoffman.
Ensemble music always has a very special place in the Liceu Cambra programme, with the presence of groups of international category such as Elias String Quartet, whose members include the Center’s violin teacher Sara Bitlloch.
As in each edition, in addition to the master classes, concerts of great interest will be offered at the Auditori del Conservatori Liceu, one of the best stages of its kind in Barcelona and an ideal space to fully enjoy the music of the greatest. In addition to the concert of the aforementioned Elias String Quartet, you will be able to live the unique experience of listening to Scriabin’s 10 Piano Sonatas in a single concert, performed by Jaeden Izik-Dzurko, winner of the last edition of the prestigious Maria Canals contest. The opera will also be the Liceu Cambra’s main character with a high-level professional production around a fundamental title by Mozart: Così fan tutte, performed by the students of the Master in Opera Performance under the musical direction by Manel Valdivieso and stage direction by Anna Ponces.
