In addition to instrument lessons and individual performance, the Center’s Curriculum of the Bachelor of Music in Classical and Contemporary Music Performance, Major in Orchestral Instruments, puts a lot of emphasis on the ensemble music practice, with a very ambitious program of great symphonic ensembles and chamber music. It has nearly one hundred fifty ensembles guided by expert teachers in each of the training and worked genres.
This way, students gain experience as ensemble musicians beyond the technical perfection of its instrument as soloists. In addition, they take part in different orchestras in a rotating way in order to be able to gain experience in numerous facets of the performing activity and the professional life of the orchestra musician: Symphonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Classical Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Liceu XXI Ensemble, Opera Orchestra, Cello Octet, etc.
Besides, it is an experience of professional level because the season of the Center’s Auditorium, within the Liceu Jove concert cycle, articulates the activity of these ensembles. This way is accessible to the audience of the entire city.
The students of orchestral instruments benefit from the Liceu Cambra Masterclasses’ season, an ambitious concert cycle that brings renowned soloists and orchestral musicians as visiting teachers in all the specializations offered by the Center: violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba / bombard, saxophone and percussion.
Despite being a minority, some musical instruments have the special attention of the Center, equipped with double basses, concert harps, marimbas and other percussion instruments.
Last, they have the Liceu Express concert cycle, where the chamber ensembles regularly perform their work to the public through a weekly cycle of auditions. In the same way, they can access concert activities outside of the Center, thanks to the educational collaboration agreements that help the students to get professional experience in other programs or events promoted by organizations and businesses.
