Objectives
The Master’s Degree in Artistic Education in Opera Performance offers young singers the opportunity to grow and develop themselves as performers –in an environment of artistic excellence and the highest musical competence– thanks to the combination of resources and the experience of the institution. The aim is to help to build careers in the Opera world and to train students in the field of operatic performance; including signing, stylistic, repertory, scenic and theoretical techniques. Also, to provide them with professional experience.
The Master’s objective is the technical, singing and stylistic work around a fundamental title in Opera’s history in the context of professional-level opera production. A cast made up of students from the Master’s program –accompanied by the Liceu Conservatory Orchestra– will achieve this objective through joint work with prestigious names from the Opera scene and experts in the Opera selected in each edition.
The Master’s proposals are:
- To contribute to building careers in the Opera world.
- To train students in the field of operatic performance, including signing, stylistic, repertory, scenic and theoretical techniques. Also, to provide them with professional experience in opera productions.
- To provide students with the knowledge and abilities of a highly-skilled performer and a well-defined artistic personality.
- To offer to classical singers the opportunity to train themselves in the context of professional-level opera production, stimulating an individual and collective development, from the first music rehearsals to the definitive staging of the selected title.
Training Profile
The student who obtains the Master’s Degree in Artistic Education in Opera Performance achieves a high-quality training and specialization in the world of opera, thanks to the opportunity to put it into practice through work in a production real opera and learning based on professional practice from granas experts in stage musical interpretation.
This Master’s also offers the student training in research methods which, together with the Final Master’s Thesis, forms the basis for future Doctorate studies.

Artistic Program in the 2020-2021 edition
The objective of the Master is the technical, vocal and stylistic work around the opera Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A. Mozart and his public performance, integrated into the cycles of the Liceu Conservatory Auditorium with a cast made up of Master’s students, accompanied by the Liceu Conservatory Orchestra.
In the 2021-2022 edition of the Master, the program will feature other singers who are experts in Mozartian interpretation, such as Carlos Chausson, Eduard Giménez or Joan Martín-Royo, as well as specialists in the musical and scenic direction of this repertoire such as Paco Azorín and will include lectures by of great management professionals and artistic directors of the great theaters and opera festivals of the country.

Curriculum
There are individual classes of technique and collective classes of the scene. Furthermore, there is an individual continuing education, with repertoire teachers and preparation of the piece next to big names and some of today’s best experts in the selected title, as well as in singing and the lyrical scene in general. The students have access to the masterclasses by internationally renowned musicians with great music and scenic experience. Not to mention professional training focused towards a global cultural market with music management professionals.
The Music Businesses course provides the students with the cultural reality of the country through some of its main cultural managers, with special emphasis on operatic activity.
The Analysis Seminar course will deal with the formal and stylistic analysis of the opera performed as well as its structure and musical dramaturgy.
The Curriculum includes the execution of a Final Essay under the management of several specialists. It consists in elaborating a written memory commenting the different musical and scenic aspects of the role prepared by the student.
Students will learn the new scenic trends led by the great European theaters. Moreover, they will have access to the ambitious masterclasses program of the Center with a regular yearly presence of renowned opera singers. Likewise, they will study the chosen piece through music and dramatic analysis. Finally, there will be a rehearsal with the orchestra and the staging of the piece. The Liceu Conservatory Auditorium concert cycles will integrate the performance of the participants in the Master’s Degree.
This way, the Master’s will faithfully reflect the reality of a profession in which the artistic evolution and the progressive globalization demand a capacity for change and constant adaptation.

Master’s Final Thesis
The study program includes the completion of a Master’s Final Thesis under the direction of specialists, consisting of the preparation of a written report commenting on the different musical and scenic aspects of the role that each student will have to prepare.
