The Liceu Conservatory has made a great bet for Jazz and Modern Music recognition as specializations in the Bachelor’s Degree. The Department’s teachers are big names of the Jazz and Modern Music scene in Barcelona and abroad. The Department offers an ideal environment to study this music with maximum accuracy and with total knowledge of its tradition and modern trends. The students of the Bachelor of Music Performance, Major in Jazz and Modern Music, have at their disposition several programs of instruments: electric guitar, bass, electric bass, piano, drums and percussion, singing, saxophone, trumpet, flute trombone, violin, cello, tuba and clarinet.
The Jazz and Modern Music studies have specific teachers, courses, and ensembles that allow the student to get specialized training aimed at the type of music more adequate to his/her sensitivity.
The Jazz and Modern Music students at the Liceu Conservatory have frequent opportunities to play in the areas of the Center (in the Auditorium and in the Cafè, where the Liceu Jam Sessions have been consolidated as an indispensable concert cycle on Thursday evenings in Barcelona). In addition, in several stages in the city, in combos and other ensembles, as the emblematic Liceu Big Band which has made a name for itself in the Barcelona scene through its collaborations in renowned cycles as Barcelona’s Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival.
The Department also has a program of visiting teachers and the Masterclasses of the Liceu Jazz concert cycle that allows the students to meet the big musical names of today visiting Barcelona to play in the mentioned festival.

Specialty Entry Profile
In the Performance specializations, it is expected that people aspiring to study the Bachelor in Higher Artistic Education in Music can interpret the repertoire indicated for the Entrance Tests with a technical level and a clear awareness of the stylistic features of the works presented.
The entry profile for the Performance specialties is that of a person with a significant mastery of their instrumental or vocal specialty, which allows them to face the Bachelor in Higher Artistic Education in Music with advantage.
The person aspiring to this modality has rigorous prior training, which allows him to demonstrate his mastery of the instrument through the interpretation of complex works.
Training Profile
The graduate in Performance, in the Jazz and Modern Music specialty, is a musician who dominates the repertoire and has acquired the improvisational skills specific to this field. He has a high level of performance with his instrument or voice and is also able to compose and arrange pieces for various ensembles, from small ones to the Big Band and other ensembles specific to the field. He has also acquired the foundations of an aesthetic personality and a language of his own, and also a broad knowledge of the application of technology to musical creation.
