Objectives
The Master’s Degree in Artistic Education in Jazz and Modern Music Performance allows the student to develop the typical language of the representative pieces of the repertoire, deepening in a specific area of specialization. In doing so, the student acquires the knowledge and aptitudes of a great performer with a well-defined artistic personality. The student gets a deep knowledge of the most important tradition and styles in the jazz and modern music history, as well as other styles of improvised and fusion music
It is also a unique opportunity to be in optimal conditions to gain access to professional practice in concert cycles and jazz festivals in our country, as well as recordings and professional activities related to creativity and today’s music industry.
Training Profile
The student who obtains the Master’s Degree in Artistic Education in Jazz and Modern Music Performance achieves a great specialization in his instrument, as well as in other fundamental skills of the musician specialized in Jazz and Modern Music such as arrangements, analysis, composition, and knowledge of the music industry.
This Master’s also offers the student training in research methods which, together with the Master’s Final Thesis, forms the basis for future Doctorate studies.

How is the experience?
Curriculum
The performing project, with a solo or group repertoire, will be oriented to a specific area of Jazz and Modern Music repertoire to meet the objectives of the Master’s Degree. The project, chosen according to the technical characteristics, training and artistic concerns of the students, will be performed in a final concert, in conditions close to the reality of the professional world. Also, during the entire duration of the Master’s, frequent audition and live performing activities will be promoted.
The development of a defined personality is encouraged, giving bigger options in the professional world of Jazz and Modern Music, both in performing and teaching activities. The student achieves the improvement of the instrumental and/or vocal technique, together with supplementary training especially focused on the study and analysis of harmony and improvisation, discussing and analyzing representative pieces and recordings of the history of Jazz and the Modern music. The students of the Master’s degree will be able to develop a complete knowledge of the pieces performed and a better awareness of the stylistic characteristics of the popular 20th-century music and its cultural implications.
The students of the Master’s degree in Jazz and Modern Music can meet first-hand agents and experts in musical management through the Music Businesses course, which offers a current vision of the professional world of Music with the help of experienced teachers.
The Analysis Seminar allows entering into the language of Jazz and Modern Music to deepen in the knowledge of its formal, harmonic and instrumental structures.
In parallel to the students’ Music performance in the graduation recital, the Final Essay allows them to express their ideas and the thought inspiring them through the selection of the repertoire and format of their concert.
The students also have access to the masterclasses from the Liceu Cambra concert cycle, with some of the most outstanding teachers and soloists of the orchestral, chamber music and solo scene. Not to mention lectures by visiting teachers and several concerts and auditions that take place regularly at the halls of the Center.

Master’s Final Thesis
The study program includes the completion of a Master’s Final Thesis under the direction of specialists who allow the student to define and express in a coherent manner the own ideas about his repertoire, while developing his ability to communicate the content and results of their performance work to diverse audiences.
