Marcel Barrera and Candela Puigbó, students from the Liceu Conservatory of Music, participated on October 16 in the tribute to Lluís Companys i Jover, who was President of the Parliament of Catalonia and the Generalitat of Catalonia, on the occasion of the 84th anniversary of his execution.
The event began with the reading of the sonnet “Al president Companys” by Ventura Gassol, performed by actress Laura Aubert, who recited the poem to the background of the Sarabande from Suite nº4 for solo cello in E-flat major BWV 1010 by Johann Sebastian Bach, played by Candela Puigbò, a Student of the Conservatory and recipient of a scholarship from the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation. Afterwards, the Parliamentary Board, led by its President, the Hon. Mr. Josep Rull i Andreu, made a floral offering at the monument to those sacrificed for freedom in Catalonia, located in the Library’s courtyard. A minute of silence followed, and finally, Student Marcel Barrera performed “Corrandes d’exili” by Pere Quart, in the musical version by Lluís Llach.
