The Gran Teatre del Liceu has just presented its next season where we find three shows, “Trencanous-jazz” (Nutrocker-Jazz), “La cuina de Rossini” (Rossini’s kitchen), and “El monstre al laberint” (The Monster in the Maze, by Jonathan Dove), with the participation of young musicians and composers from the Liceu Conservatory.
These collaborations are the result of an agreement between the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Liceu Conservatory Foundation with the aim of fostering students’ professional experience during their studies, and after graduating.
The “Trencanous Jazz” premiere will be on Saturday 27 November. The project has been developed under musical coordination of Toni Vaquer, graduate and professor of the Liceu Conservatory. This classic will be revisited from a plural and inclusive approach. The Conservatory musicians will perform new and alluring jazz-flavored arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s music, made by students and alumni of the Liceu Conservatory.
With the Liceu Conservatory students’ participation in these productions, one of our educational principles is fulfilled. As it is included in the Liceu Conservatory curriculum, one of the main goals of students’ performing activities is to acquire experience in a professional environment and bring them closer to their professional future. These goals are achieved by encouraging students with their own projects, and their participation in external activities within the framework of agreements with other institutions. The promotion of personal projects or those that arise from the internal dynamics among students is another of our milestones.
