On November 26th, Miquel Muñiz, former violin student of the Centre Superior de la Fundació Conservatori Liceu and the pianist Lluís Rodríguez premiered Stealing Time C, a work by the teacher of the Centre Superior Liceu Octavi Rumbau at the Auditori de Sant Josep de Moià.
In addition to the concert organised by Juventudes Musicales de Moià, Miquel Muñiz and Lluís Rodríguez performed Stealing Time C on 29 November at the Metropol Theatre in Tarragona and on 30 November at the Escuela Municipal de Musica in Sant Boi de Llobregat.
Stealing time C, a work for violin and piano, lasts six minutes and is the third piece in a cycle called Stealing Time. The germ that articulates the works in the Stealing Time cycle is based on experimentation around a technique that Octavi Rumbau has been working on lately: “el cànon rítmic per tessel·lació” . According to Octavi Rumbau “A certain paradox is created between both instruments thanks to the contradiction of time and rhythms, and between the perception of a linear musical time and a circular one”.
Octavi Rumbau has recently been in the news after winning the XXXVIII Queen Sofia Prize for Musical Composition 2020, awarded by the Ferrer Salat Music Foundation. He is currently composer-in-residence of the Music Network 2022-2023.
Miquel Muñiz has studied at the Centre Superior of the Liceu Conservatory Foundation was the beneficiary of a four-year scholarship from the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation. He currently enjoys a Postgraduate Scholarship to study abroad awarded by the La Caixa Foundation, to study the Master’s Degree in Classical and Contemporary Music Performance specialising in violin at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU). Muñiz has been in the news in recent years as he has won a long list of awards in various competitions such as the Odin International Music Online Competition, the Virtual International Music Competition Malaysia 2020, the Eduard Grach International Violin Competition, El Primer Palau or the XCVI Concurs de Juventudes Musicales de España.
From the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, we congratulate the performers Miquel Muñiz and Lluís Rodríguez for their performance and Octavi Rumbau for the premiere of this work.
