This year we will celebrate the 2nd International Chamber Music Competition of the Liceu Sax Festival.
We’re delighted to announce that the 6th Liceu Sax Festival will take place this year! From 12th to 14th of April 2024, we will experience three intense days of saxophone-related activities at the Liceu Conservatory: masterclasses, concerts, conferences, workshops, round-tables, and the 2nd International Chamber Music Competition of the Liceu Sax Festival, part of a unique project aimed at promoting the instrument and its significance in the world of chamber music.
This year, we will have the privilege of enjoying the presence of seven great saxophonist masters: Nobuya Sugawa, Javier Ocampo, Joâo Pedro Silva, Iñaki Bermúdez, Carla Obach, David Salleras, and Albert Julià, who serves as the artistic director of the Festival and is also Professor and Head of the Chamber Music Department at the Liceu Conservatory.
In a unique pedagogic proposal, the Junior Sax Festival has also been scheduled as part of the Liceu Sax Festival. On Saturday, April 13, this event will bring together the expertise of veteran saxophonists with young musicians still in training. The program will feature performances by students from various institutions, directed by the aforementioned masters. This collaborative experience aims to bridge the gap between experienced professionals and aspiring talents, fostering a dynamic learning environment within the vibrant setting of the Liceu Sax Festival.
The Festival, held biennially, is organised by the Conservatori Liceu Foundation with the sponsorship of Yamaha. It began in 2014 and since then has gathered a large number of attendees in its editions, achieving high quality in the invited musicians and participants. Throughout these years, the Liceu Sax Festival has hosted top-notch saxophonists such as Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Pawel Gusnar, Albert Julià, Xavier Larsson, Otis Murphy, Nicolas Prost, Joao Pedro Silva, Kenneth Tse, and Marc Vilanova.
It is a unique initiative within the country’s educational landscape, aiming to go beyond traditional instrumental gatherings with the goal of promoting the pedagogy and performance of the saxophone. The festival has a firm purpose to develop and exchange learning skills and knowledge between professionals and students.
Once again, the Liceu Sax Festival aims to be the meeting point for students, teachers, and saxophone enthusiasts in what is now the 6th edition of the event.
