This year will take place the 1st edition of the Liceu Sax Festival International Contest for Saxophone Quartet.
The festival highlights the saxophone in a unique initiative in the country.
One more year, and for five editions, the Liceu Sax Festival arrives and with the help of Yamaha’s patronage, grows and create the 1st Liceu Sax Festival International Competition for Saxophone Quartet.
From March 17 to 20, 2022, four intense days of activities will take place with the saxophone as main topic at Liceu Conservatory Foundation: Master classes, concerts, conferences, workshops, seminars, and the aforementioned contest, in a unique project that wants to disseminate the saxophone and its importance in the world of music.
This year we will enjoy the presence of four great master classes by Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Pawel Gusnar, Kenneth Tse and Albert Julià (the Festival Artistic director as well as professor and Head of the Chamber Music Department).
In a unique pedagogical setting, the Junior Sax Festival has been organized within the framework of the Liceu Sax Festival. On March 19, it will connect the experience of senior professional saxophonists with young musicians and performances by students from different schools, conducted by the teachers referenced above.
The Festival, which is celebrated biannually, is organized by Liceu Conservatory Foundation with Yamaha as patron. It began in 2014 and since then has gathered a large number of attendees. It also has reached great quality in the guest musicians and participants level. Throughout these years, important saxophonists such as Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Pawel Grannar, Albert Julià, Xavier Larsson, Otis Murphy, Nicolas Prost, Joao Pedro Silva, Kenneth Tse or Marc Vilanova have passed through the Liceu Sax Festival.
It is a unique initiative within the educational landscape of the country, which wants to go beyond the traditional instrumental meetings that are carried out with the aim of disseminating and promoting saxophone’s pedagogy and performance. Liceu Sax Festival has the firm commitment of developing and exchanging learning skills and knowledge between professionals and students.
In this 5th edition, the Liceu Sax Festival wants to be the meeting point of amateurs, students, teachers and lovers of the saxophone again.
