The Liceu Higher Conservatory of Music began lectures for the new 2025–26 academic year today, Monday, September 15, at the Conservatory Auditorium, where the management team and Heads of Department welcomed the new students.
The event began with the screening of two videos: the program for the Liceu Jazz series, in collaboration with the Barcelona Jazz Festival, and a recap of the most recent Liceu Jove series, both supported by the Ferrer Music Foundation and the “la Caixa” Foundation, respectively.
Piano student Ivan Sharapov, an Excellence Scholar of the Ferrer Music Foundation, performed two pieces from Robert Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, Op. 12. In this way, music was brought to the event, as is customary, before the remarks by Maria Serrat, General Director of the Liceu Conservatory Foundation. In her welcome, she highlighted the institution’s long trajectory and the quality of its educational and artistic offerings. Also speaking were Víctor Estapé, Academic Director, as well as Benjamin Davies (Head of the Department of Composition and Theoretical Subjects), Albert Julià (Head of the Department of Chamber Music), and Manel Valdivieso (Head of the Department of Orchestra and Ensembles), who explained how the year will operate in their respective areas and provided essential information for its smooth running.
Afterwards, all Bachelor’s program students and Erasmus exchange students met with their Head of Department to learn in more detail about the projects and objectives for the year in each specialty.
This academic year marks the start of the 16th cohort of the Bachelor’s Degree in Music since the implementation of the studies derived from the L.O.E. and the Bologna Process—a program with growing demand and a highly attractive curriculum for young musicians that offers training strongly focused on gaining practical experience in the various performance specialties (classical and contemporary music, jazz and modern music, flamenco guitar), as well as in Pedagogy and Composition.
