The Conservatori Liceu Foundation has received with deep regret the news of the passing of Larry Monroe, a model of dedication to his profession as a musician, manager and teacher.
Larry Monroe was Vice President of International Programs at Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA), an institution internationally recognized as one of the most important and influential in the world of modern music, and from this position, he initiated and led the Berklee International Network (BIN), a network of which the Conservatori Liceu was one of the first founding members.
In addition to his work as a manager, Larry Monroe excelled as an internationally renowned saxophonist, composer, arranger and teacher, serving primarily as a professor at Berklee College of Music until his retirement in 2009. He made numerous visits to L’Aula de Música moderna y Jazz del Conservatori Liceu, where he taught master classes and workshops.
When the Conservatori Liceu Foundation and Berklee College of Music signed their first collaboration agreement in February 1993, it was thanks to Larry Monroe, consolidating an agreement of great prestige that allows L’Aula students to automatically validate their studies at Berklee College.
In 2003, the Conservatori del Liceu began teaching the Advanced Degree in Jazz and Modern Music, reinforcing its commitment to the most advanced musical education, and thanks to more than 30 years of uninterrupted collaboration with Berklee and multiple international agreements, the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has expanded and enriched its connections with other entities around the world.
The artistic and educational community of the Conservatori Liceu will always remember Larry with special gratitude and affection, both as an excellent musician and as an exceptional person.
