On November 3rd, saxophonist Jaume Oliver, a graduate from the Centre Superior at the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, won the Enderrock award for the best classical-contemporary album Un abús al cor, by popular vote at the 5th Balearic Music Awards.
His album contains the soundtrack to the play Un abús al cor by Wajdi Mouawad.
Jaume Oliver is graduated in saxophone at the Centre Superior of the Liceu Conservatory Foundation where he studied with Albert Julià and was a beneficiary of the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation scholarship.
The prize-giving ceremony took place in Palma’s Principal Theatre, where around twenty prizes were awarded in the categories of popular vote, critics’ prizes and special prizes. It also featured performances by a dozen musicians from the Balearic Islands.
In the Critics’ Prize category, among others, the singer-songwriter from Lloret de Vistalegre Maria Jaume was recognised for her album Voltes i voltes (Bankrobber, 2022) as the best singer-songwriter album. Maria Jaume was a student at the Aula de Música Moderna i Jazz from the Centre Professional at the Liceu Conservatory with professors Cristian Serra and Bart Barenghi.
The ceremony of the 5th Balear Music Awards was attended by prominent authorities such as the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol; the Vice-President of the Council of Mallorca and Councillor for Culture, Heritage and Linguistic Policy, Bel Busquets, and the Deputy Mayor of Palma City Council, Antoni Noguera. Also in attendance, among other personalities, were the Minister of European Funds, University and Culture of the Government, Miquel Company; the Managing Director of the Teatro Principal de Palma, Josep R. Cerdà; the President of the Obra Cultural Balear, Joan Miralles, and the Editorial Director of the Enderrock Group, Lluís Gendrau.
