On September 26th, a welcome ceremony was held for the Chinese students who will be completing part of their studies at the Liceu Conservatory of Music during the 2024-2025 academic year, as part of the International Exchange program. This Exchange stems from the collaboration agreement signed between the Liceu Conservatory Foundation and the Zhejiang and Xianghai Conservatories in China.
The event was presided over by Dr. Maria Serrat, General Director of the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, along with the General Consul of China in Barcelona, Mr. Zhang Yan, and the Vice Consul Wang Zixuan. In her speech, Dr. Maria Serrat emphasized the long and fruitful relationship that the Liceu Conservatory has maintained with the Chinese institutions over the years. She also highlighted the power of music as a universal bridge for communication and mutual understanding between people.
This Exchange is part of numerous initatives promoted by the Liceu Conservatory Foundation in collaboration with Chinese institutions over the years. These include the presentation of Mozart’s opera Der Schauspieldirektor in Beijing and other Chinese cities in 1999, the performance of the Zhejiang Youth Orchestra at the Liceu Conservatory Auditorium in 2018, and the China-Spain International Music Competitions. This latter project, with tis 2020 and 2021 editions dedicated to violin, flute, and clarinet, saw the participation of over 200 musicians from leading Chinese conservatories and other internationally renowned music institutions.
These collaborations reaffirm the Liceu Conservatory Foundation’s commitment to cultural Exchange and musical excellence, strengthening the ties between Chinese and Catalan culture.
