The International China-Spain Music Competition 2020 Edition Violin

THE INTERNATIONAL CHINA-SPAIN MUSIC COMPETITION 2020 EDITION – VIOLIN

On July 27, the China-Spain International Music Competition ended as part of the institutional collaboration of the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona and the Zhong-Xi-Qiao Intercultural Association.

The event was developed as a full online activity, and it had the purpose of strengthening the value and need of art in times as difficult as those of the current pandemic, reinforcing the value of music as a tool for creativity and a transforming element of society and of union between different cultures.

The contest had a high participation, in total 206 participants from Europe, Asia and America from the most important Conservatories in China and from some leading musical institutions such as Juilliard School, New England Conservatory, Cincinnati University, Royal Colleage of London, Royal Academy of the Netherlands, Art University of Berlin, University of Music and performing art of Graz, among others.

Given the high level of the participants, in addition to the prizes to the winners of each category, the contest awarded some special prizes such as the Prize for the most outstanding Spanish and Chinese participants, and the Prize for excellence in teaching.

The contest was chaired by Dr. Maria Serrat Martin, General Director of the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona, and was sponsored by IESTA Beijing Musical Instruments Co., Ltd. The jury was made up of top figures from Europe and Asia such as Corrado Bolsi, Head of the String Department and professor at the Conservatori Liceu; Jordán Tejedor, Professor at the Liceu Conservatory; Mark Messenger, Head of the String Department, Royal College of Music London; Lin Wei, Founder and President of the LIN Yaoji Music Foundation; Founder of HIMA Academy in Iceland; Xie Nan, Head of the Violin Department at the China Central Conservatory of Music; and Liu Jing, Assistant Violin Soloist second in the Gran Teatre del Liceu Symphony Orchestra. The contest will be supervised by Yang Jiuhua, violin teacher and Vice Director of the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, China,

This contest is part of the activities that the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona has been carrying out for years with homologous institutions in China and that have resulted in activities such as the presentation of the opera Der Schauspieldirektor by Mozart in Beijing and other Chinese cities, the presentation of the Zhejiang Youth Orchestra in the Auditorium of the Conservatori in 2018, as well as the musicians from China who in these years have carried out their musical training in Barcelona in our Bachelor and Master programs.
