The Liceu Conservatory Foundation participated in the 2nd Liangzhu International Forum, which took place in China between 25 and 26 November. It was a meeting organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Government of the province of Zhejiang, which aimed to promote exchanges and common learning, based on two fundamental axes: the role of Art in the development of civilisation and the era of Digital Intelligence and its consequences on the future of Music and Art.
The Forum was attended by participants from more than 20 countries from all over the world, with representatives of institutions linked to music, literature, and art in general, as well as archaeology, due to the importance of the Lianzhu region as a heritage of humanity and the cradle of Chinese civilisation.
In addition to participating in various conferences and discussions, the Liceu Conservatory Foundation (represented by the General Director Maria Serrat, the Head of Project Development and International Relations María Fernanda Martínez, and the violinist Oriol Saña, professor of the Department of Jazz and Modern Music) presented the project “Enhancing Musical Expression for musicians with Palsy: AI-Powered Robotics for Real Instrument Play”, a project developed by the SIFU Foundation and ABB Robotics, in collaboration with the Conservatori Liceu, thanks to which a 17-year-old boy with cerebral palsy can play a piano using eye-tracking technology and robotics. In this project, Artificial Intelligence plays a fundamental role, managing to reduce latency and improve response capacity, and translating the performer’s eye movements into real-time robotic actions on the piano.
This activity is part of the numerous initiatives promoted by the Liceu Conservatory Foundation in collaboration with various Conservatories in China, which include joint artistic and academic projects. With its participation in the Liangzhu International Forum, the Conservatori Liceu makes visible its firm commitment to the development of new technologies and Artificial Intelligence in Music, so that projects with great social impact can be built with them.
