New additions to the Liceu Higher Conservatory for the 2024-2025 academic year

21/06/2024

New additions to the Liceu Higher Conservatory for the 2024-2025 academic year

The upcoming academic year 2024-2025 the Conservatori Superior de Música Liceu will welcome new professors. These include Santi de la Rubia (Improvisation), Antonio Mazzei (Jazz Piano), Albert Coronado (Viola), and Salomé Osca (Viola). These new additions are in line with the previously announced hires of Bernardo Verde (Bassoon), Anabel Montesinos (Classical Guitar), Luis Cabrera (Double Bass), and Javier Cantos (Trumpet).

Santi de la Rubia is a prominent saxophonist on both the national and international stages, who has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Tom Harrell, Jorge Rossy, Antonio Serrano, Doug Weiss, Jeb Patton, Vinicius Gomes, Joan Monné, Martín Leiton, Juan Galiardo, Lluís Vidal, Ernesto Aurignac, Jaume Llombart, Perico Sambeat, and Roger Mas, among others. His discography includes two albums as a leader, “Broken Line” and “Changes,” as well as over thirty albums as a sideman. He combines his performance activities with teaching.

Antonio Mazzei is a pianist, composer, and producer with a prolific international career. After studying at the prestigious New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, he made his debut in 2009 as a leader with the album “Contrastes” and has collaborated with renowned artists such as Paquito D’Rivera and Rubén Blades. Mazzei has produced several award-winning albums, and in 2016 he created Chroma, a multidisciplinary project with Sheyla Tohme. His solo album “Reveries” (2018) stands out for its blend of free jazz and classical music. He has been active in various ensembles, including a quartet with Jean Toussaint in 2020 and releasing an album with his trio in 2022. In 2024, he initiated the project “Love is Real” with Paula Valls and Dave Douglas. He is also part of the duo Arauca with Marta Gómez and has collaborated on several Grammy-nominated albums.

Albert Coronado began his musical training at the age of six at the Enric Granados School of Music in Sant Joan Despí, specializing in violin and viola. His career with the viola took off in 2008 under the tutelage of Luis Martínez and was further solidified under the guidance of Ashan Pillai at the Conservatori de Badalona and later at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu, thanks to a scholarship from the Ferrer Salat Foundation. Coronado has performed solo recitals throughout Spain and has collaborated with various orchestras, including the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the OBC. Since 2020, he has been the principal violist of the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.

Salomé Osca is a distinguished violist who has been a member of the Orquestra del Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona since November 2021 and collaborates with orchestras such as the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Spain. She completed her advanced studies at the Conservatori del Liceu with a Ferrer-Salat excellence scholarship and won several awards as a member of the Amika Kvartet string quartet. In 2019, she moved to Berlin to pursue a master’s degree at the Universität der Künste. Osca has received training from renowned international artists and premiered the work “ERIT LVX” by David Cantalejo in 2023.

With these additions, the Liceu Conservatory reinforces its commitment to excellence in music education, offering educational programs with the best professionals nationally and internationally.
