In the upcoming academic year 2024-2025, the Aula of Modern Music and Jazz at the Liceu Professional Conservatory will welcome 6 new teachers in the areas of Modern Music and Jazz. They are John Guerrero (Trumpet), César del Val (Saxophone), Sara Lilu (vocals), Ángela Quiralte (vocals), Marcos Expósito (Double Bass and Electric Bass), and Asier Olabarrieta (Theoretical subjects and drums).
John Guerrero is a Colombian trumpeter and educator deeply dedicated to teaching jazz to children and young people, being the founder of the Albor Big Band youth project in Colombia. His academic background includes a degree from Sergio Arboleda University and a master’s degree in Jazz Performance from the Liceu Higher Conservatory of Music.
César del Val began his musical training at the Tomás Luis de Victoria Professional Conservatory in Ávila with Jesús García. Later, he studied classical saxophone at the Salamanca Superior Conservatory of Music and completed his higher degree in jazz saxophone at the Liceu Higher Conservatory of Music in 2016. He has participated in numerous musical formats and festivals internationally.
Sara Lilu is a Canary Island singer with a natural inclination towards creative expression through her voice, trained at the Liceu Higher Conservatory of Music. She mainly focuses on jazz, free improvisation, and Brazilian music genres, and has collaborated with renowned artists such as Bill McHenry and Carme Canela.
Ángela Quiralte is a singer, flutist, and composer born in Córdoba and residing in Barcelona. She began her musical training with the classical flute but discovered her passion for singing and jazz during her years of study. Awarded a scholarship by the Ferrer-Salat Foundation, she began her jazz voice studies at the Liceu Higher Conservatory of Music in 2019.
Marcos Expósito is an Uruguayan musician, producer, researcher, and educator with over 15 years of international experience. Graduated from the Tatuí Superior Conservatory in São Paulo, he has worked with figures such as Susana Baca and Gustavo Ripa. He has produced several albums, highlighting «Chabuca Negra», winner of the Ibermúsicas award. He currently resides in Barcelona, where he continues his career as a musician and producer, collaborating in artistic and educational projects.
Finally, Asier Olabarrieta is a Navarrese musician known for his versatility. He studied drums at the Liceu Higher Conservatory of Music, where he received the Extraordinary Prize of his class. Besides being a talented drummer, he is also trained as a pianist, singer, composer, and arranger.
With these additions, the Liceu Conservatory Foundation reinforces its commitment to excellence and musical education.
