The collaborative initiative which has been carried out recently by the Liceu Conservatory Foundation and the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) will continue this academic year 2018-2019 through new joint activities, that will make possible again the exchange of works of our respective Composition students, as well as working with our faculty (with activities such as the visit and masterclasses by their Head of Composition Department, Philip Cashian, in March 2015).
Following this joint effort with the RAM, one of the most prestigious musical institutions in the United Kingdom, professor and artistic advisor of the Liceu Conservatory Benet Casablancas has been invited by the RAM to teach a seminar and a masterclass. These activities will include a recital by the pianist and Liceu Conservatory’s former student Maria Canyigueral, next October 26th at the Duke’s Hall.
Casablancas, an internationally renowned composer, will work along the Composition students and he will present his latest album with Sony label, and recorded by the London Sinfonietta conducted by Felix Krieger. He will analyse the technical, aesthetic and artistic context of the works included on the recording.
Also within the framework of this collaboration, the Composers’ Platform series, organized by its Composition Department, has programmed next November 1st the performing of the Harp Trio by Daniel López, Liceu Conservatory’s former student and 2017-2018 Liceu Conservatory’s Composition Extraordinary Award.
The concert will be held at the Angela Burgess Recital Hall of the Royal Academy of Music in London, by prominent Master’s program students and along other works of the center’s Composition students.
This is a project which involves works by students of one institution being performed in concerts organized by the other. Firstly, the Liceu Conservatory Composition Department invites its students to present works for inclusion in this series, conceived as a biannual platform for disseminating the most innovative sound creation. In a second stage, the Liceu Conservatory’s concert programme also includes the works sent by RAM’s students (it was held last June and we will repeat the experience next year).
