The Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theatre in Bogotá and the Liceu Conservatory Foundation sign a collaboration agreement for the creation of an excellency scholarship for colombian singing students
On September 16th, the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theatre in Bogotá and the Liceu Conservatory Foundation signed an institutional collaboration agreement through which a cooperation is established to carry out joint academic and cultural activities and the creation of the Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theatre – Liceu Conservatory Scholarship, aimed to support the training of Colombian singers through the Programs of the Master’s Degree in Musical Performance at the Liceu Conservatory.
The signing of the agreement was made during the visit by the General Director of the Theatre, Mr. Ramiro Osorio Fonseca, who knew firsthand the building and the projects of the Conservatory.
The Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theatre was opened on May 26th, 2010 and it is one of the reference cultural institutions in Colombia. With its extraordinary acoustics and technical conditions, it is part of the cultural policies of the city of Bogotá with an extensive and outstanding activity in Music, Dance, Theater, Festivals and Family. In its first years of existence, about three million people have been able to know the Colombian and international scenic art in the performance that have been made in its two halls, becoming a main cultural center in the country.
This agreement is part of the collaboration program that the Liceu Foundation has developed in Latin America and specifically in Colombia for more than fifteen years, and thanks to which more than 350 students from Colombia have completed their Bachelor’s and Master’s studies in Barcelona. The new scholarship will give young Colombian singers the opportunity to access a first level training in one of the reference cities of the operatic world, at the very institution where many of the greatest singers have studied, such as tenor Francesc Viñas, or sopranos Montserrat Caballé and Victoria de los Ángeles, among many other international figures.
