On November 29, the Liceu Conservatory Foundation and the Xi’an Conservatory of China, in collaboration with Casa Asia, the Confucius Institute Foundation of Barcelona and the Zhong-Xí-Qíao Cultural Association, presented a concert of traditional Chinese music at the Live Room of the Conservatory.
The event was attended by, among other personalities, Ms. Zhang Yan, Consul of the Consulate of China in Barcelona; Mr. Director of Casa Asia, Mr. Li Peihua, Director of the Confucius Institute Foundation of Barcelona, Ms. Gaélle Patin Laloy, Head of the Interculturality Program of Casa Asia; Jing Liu from the Zhong-Xí-Qíao Cultural Association; and Dr. Maria Serrat, General Director of the Liceu Conservatory Foundation.
The event began with the welcoming remarks of Ms. Maria Serrat Martín and Mr. Zhong Tinghu, Vice President of the Xi’an Conservatory of China, who highlighted the fundamental role of music as a tool to overcome cultural and linguistic barriers, and acting as a bridge of communication and mutual understanding.
The concert was then started by the teachers of singing and instruments of Traditional Music of the Xi’an Conservatory, Wang Jie (Psaltery), Gao Chunhua (Bamboo flute) and Zhang Yaxi (voice); who performed traditional music works such as Spring Comes to the Laughing Qingjiang (Chun Dao Qingjiang), Peasant Folk Songs (Xiangge), Northern Shaanxi Folk Song: Driving the Cattle (Gan Shengling), Hubei Folk Song: The Melody of the Dragon Boat (Longchuan Diao), Rural Charm (Xiang Yun) and The Full Moon and Flowers, for ensemble of traditional Chinese instruments, among others.
This activity is part of the numerous initiatives promoted by the Liceu Conservatory Foundation in collaboration with Chinese institutions and which reaffirm the Liceu Conservatory Foundation’s commitment to cultural exchange and musical excellence, strengthening the links between Chinese and Catalan culture.
