On January 30th, the Orchestra Hall of the Liceu Conservatory was the venue for the concert “The Year of the Dragon: Celebration of the Chinese New Year”.
The event was attended, among other personalities, by Mr. Hu Aimin, acting Consul General; Ms. Zhang Yan, Consul of the Chinese Consulate in Barcelona; Ms. Gaélle Patin Laloy, head of the Interculturality Program of Casa Asia; Jing Liu of the Zhong-Xí-Qíao Cultural Association; and Maria Serrat, General Director of the Conservatory Liceu Foundation.
After the welcoming remarks by Ms. Maria Serrat and Mr. Hu Aimin, the concert took place to celebrate both the Chinese New Year and musical diversity.
The participating musicians were exchange students from China for the 2023-2024 academic year, thanks to the collaboration between the Conservatori Liceu Foundation, Zhejiang University and Xinghai University.
The students presented a varied program that included traditional Chinese music. Jiang Xingchi began the concert with a performance of “The Sapphire Box Qing Yu An” and “Yuan Xi” (on Xin Qiji’s poem) by Li Yan. The final piece was a brass ensemble formed by Junxin Guo on trumpet, Jing Wu on trumpet, Kashin Sun on horn, Miquel Hernando de la Rubia on trombone and Gerard Pujol on tuba, performing “My homeland” by Liu Chi. Among these works, the Chinese students showed their talent with pieces such as “The Representatives of Le go to Beijing” by He Dong and Li Chaoran, played by Li Jiayin on violin and Zou Xinyi on piano; “Pastorale” by Sha Hankun, played by Ye Jiawen on violin; “Homage to China” by Giuseppe Ricotta, played by Wu Haoyue on clarinet; “On the Banks of the Qingshui River” by Xu Xiaolin, performed by Guo Junxin on trumpet; “Colors of Xona” by Michele Mangani, performed by Zhang Jiakang on clarinet; “Chinese Melody” by Mangani himself, performed by Wu Haoyue on clarinet; and “Reddish Bird” by Liu Heng, with interpretation by Pan Hao on marimba. The accompanying pianist was Professor Ivet Frontela.
This concert activity is part of the International Agreements of the Fundació Conservatori Liceu.
