Gonzalo de Val, Head of the Department of Jazz and Modern Music and professor of drums of the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, publishes his new album Tornaviaje on the Hotsak discography. He is accompanied on this recording by Raynald Colom (trumpet), Romain Pilon (guitar), Manel Fortià (double bass), and finally the Conservatory teacher Carme Canela (vocals).
As the album’s libretto indicates, “this band moves in an agile and elegant way through all the compositions written by Gonzalo del Val, from the thrilling Es Bot and the evocative Agrio de Limón to Galeón and Los tres mulatos de esmeraldas, where the different musical influences of the members of the band are made clear. The work runs, in perfect balance under the direction of Gonzalo del Val in the key of contemporary Jazz and certain reminiscences to the jazz of the 70’s, full of colours to Azur and Simple making ostensible the virtuosity of the quartet to Big Nick and putting final point to this work the delicate Gota d’Aigua with evident Brazilian influence and only composition with vocal contribution of the splendid Carme Canela”.
Tornaviaje is a story about returning after having explored other horizons in life.
From the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, we congratulate Gonzalo del Val for the release of this recording.
