Starting from next Monday 17th of April, Liceu Conservatoire’s master degree students will participate in the literary cycle “The first American poets: reason and memory” within the scope of the close institutional collaboration between the Fundación Conservatori Liceu and Casa Amèrica Catalunya.
It is a series of three shows whose staging combines talks leaded by the poet, essayist and literary researcher Mario Campaña, with readings of texts by the first American female poets and live music performances by students from Master’s degree from the Liceu Conservatoire.
On the first occasion, the guitarist José Daniel Salceda and the soprano Sofía Picaso, both Mexicans, will perform at the seminar entitled “Between parcels and pirates: the poets of the 16th century” where poet Ale Oseguera will give voice to the texts of Sor Leonor de Ovando and Francisca de Briviesca.
The second event, scheduled for the 22nd of May, will be led by the Ensemble Crimson, constituted by the Colombians Katherine Herrera, Juan Sebastián Hurtado and William Humberto Posada, and will have as its guiding thread “The American Invocation: The Seventeenth-Century Poets.” In this occasion, poet Miriam Reyes will read verses by Catalina de Eslava and Clarinda.
The cycle will be closed, on the 26th of June, by the Mexican soprano Sara Ravelo and the Cuban guitarist Legna Tabares Martín, in an evening whose theme will be “On the way to the first dream: the poets of the seventeenth century.” The poems of Amarilis and María de Estrada y Medinilla will end the event through Anna Miralpeix’s reading.
This new literary cycle’s, promoted by Casa Amèrica Catalunya, main aim is enhancing the figure and the work of Latin American female poets and is part of the Collaboration Program with Latin America started in 2001 by the Fundació Conservatori del Liceu.
