On 26 October the Mezzo Quartet, formed by saxophone students from the Centre Superior at the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, participated in the Arrels Fundació event, which took place in Plaça Nova in Barcelona at 7pm, in front of the Cathedral, where every year those homeless people who have lived on the streets during during their lifetime and in their death are remembered.
The Mezzo Quartet was formed by the students Gisela Dekort (Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation scholarship holder), Pol Cabrera (Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation scholarship holder) , Ivan Belda and Sofia Selda who will perform Imagine by John Lenon.
This year, to remember the 80 homeless people who left us in the last 12 months, it was commemorated through a light installation that, in the twilight of the evening, drew 80 heartbeats to make the memory visible in front of the square.
Other social organisations that accompany homeless people also collaborated in this event: Àmbit Prevenció, the Assís shelter, Associació de Dones Marroquines, BarcelonActua, Cáritas, among others.
From the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, we play music in the act of remembrance of the homeless to raise awareness among citizens, to make visible a reality that we often forget and to ensure that the people who have left us are not forgotten.
