The Liceu Conservatory Auditorium, will host the Preliminary Auditions (from 18th to 20th January 2023), the Second Auditions (22nd and 23rd) and the Semi-Finals (24th and 25th) of the Tenor Viñas International Singing Competition, which this year celebrates its 60th edition.
This way, for yet another year, the Liceu Conservatory Auditorium becomes the stage for what is one of the most important and prestigious musical competitions in the world, bringing together new lyric talents from all over the world and renowned figures from the history of opera who act as jurors. This year will participate 547 singers from 59 countries around the world.
Thus, once again, the Liceu Conservatory Auditorium joins the prestigious international list of collaborating theatres: Opéra National de Paris, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Deutsche Opera in Berlin, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Teatro allá Scala in Milan, Teatro Real in Madrid, Los Angeles Opera and Metropolitan Opera House in New York. Viñas is one of the most outstanding students who has passed through the classrooms of the Liceu Conservatory.
In fact, his time at the centre, which has always offered a shared training between the classroom and the professional field of singing, was a decisive moment in the beginning of a career that made him one of the most international operatic voices of the first third of the 20th century, and especially remembered for his Wagnerian roles. Thus, he was awarded the Extraordinary Prize in 1887 after his studies under the mastery of Gonçal Tintorer, and, foreshadowing his brilliant future, the Board did not hesitate to grant him a scholarship to devote himself exclusively to singing, debuting only a year later at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Lohengrin with overwhelming success.
This year and on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Competition, the Liceu Conservatory, wanted to celebrate it with the release of a video with the participation of Maria Serrat, General Director of the Liceu Conservatory Foundation and Miguel Lerin, Director of the Tenor Viñas Competition.
The Liceu Conservatory Foundation is one the main sponsors and collaborators of the competition together with the Fundació de Música Ferrer-Salat, Fundació Puig, the Friends of the Tenor Viñas Competition and the Gran Teatre del Liceu as main sponsor.
