The Conservatori Liceu Symphonic Band returns to the stage as a consolidated project, not only due to the excellent reception it has received from the public in previous concerts but also because it has become an indispensable pillar in enriching the orchestral offerings for students of woodwind and brass instruments.
This concert offers a chance to explore the world of band repertoires, which, far from being limited to arrangements of symphonic works or “festive” music, feature an extraordinarily wide and diverse repertoire of newly created pieces, specifically written for this type of ensemble. While this type of program is still unknown to many here, it is experiencing genuine effervescence in other parts of Europe, Asia, and the United States.
On this occasion, the program will feature works by major specialists in symphonic band composition such as Percy Grainger and Johan de Meij. Additionally, the concert will showcase two standout pieces: Poème du Feu (Poem of Fire), composed in 1978 by French composer Ida Gotkovsky – described by conductor Albert Fasce as “one of the most original and successful compositions for symphonic band in recent years” – and Variacions grotesques by Xavier Pagès-Corella, one of the most interesting contemporary Spanish composers and a Composition professor at the Conservatori Liceu. Pagès-Corella will also be responsible for conducting this concert.
This concert is part of Liceu Cambra Liceu Cambra, a well-established artistic and educational initiative with ten editions held to date. Focused on classical and contemporary music, it combines masterclasses led by renowned international artists with concerts in various formats, bringing together our students and faculty with world-famous guest performers.
