The different Chamber Ensembles that have emerged from the Conservatori Liceu have brought students closer to joint interpretation and concert activity, both in the cycles of Conservatori Liceu Auditorium and in activities carried out in other venues. Likewise, they represent artistic proposals of special interest to the public, who can find a different concert format than usual and with a very diverse repertoire.
Among the many different ensembles in which students have the opportunity to play, there are those dedicated to a single instrument. This concert represents an opportunity to see two of these chamber groups in the same space: the String Ensemble and the Flute Ensemble, conduced by Manel Valdivieso. One of the two winners of the Extraordinary Prize for Performance in Classical and Contemporary Music, soprano Alba Valdivieso, a Ferrer-Salat Foundation scholar, will also join.
The String Ensemble, composed of students of bowed string instruments from the String Department of the Conservatori Liceu, regularly works on significant repertoire pieces as well as arrangements of classical works for this type of ensemble. The program it will present on this occasion includes an exceptional work: Les Illuminations, a 1940 song cycle by English composer Benjamin Britten. It is written for voice and string orchestra and is based on poems written between 1872 and 1873 by French poet Arthur Rimbaud.
The Flute Ensemble, made up of flute students, will perform a repertoire that showcases the many possibilities this instrument can offer when it has to fulfill all roles within an ensemble.
