Architecture, Music, and Emptiness: An Exploration of Space as a Shared Creative Medium
This educational concert, organized by the Fundació Conservatori Liceu in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, delves into the spaces of silence and resonance that shape our perception: how the physical and the intangible converge in the void—that space suspended between notes, between planes, between beats—and how architecture and music name it, define it, and celebrate it.
With the participation of architect Daria de Seta, PhD in Architecture and Museography, the event aims to explore the relationship between architecture, music, silence, resonance, and proportion, understanding the void as something active: as a receiver, as a stage, as a constitutive part of musical and architectural space. Through her experience—in works that engage with history, light, and the perception of space, as well as her teaching and critical theoretical work—the session will address questions such as: What does it mean to leave a void in architecture? How is silence measured in music? In what ways do the gap, the pause, or the interstice contribute to the emotional and aesthetic effect? How are the ideas that will later be realized “written” on a plan or in a score?
The speaker’s presentation will be interwoven with musical performances that engage with the concepts of emptiness, silence, architectural space, generative pauses, and resonances. The audience will be invited to experience these not only as listeners, but as bodies in relation to space: within the mound of sound, in the stillness of silence.
An event that, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, aims to build bridges between Italian architecture, the philosophy of space, and music as the architecture of time.
