With the conviction that dialogue between music and other fields of knowledge and dissemination is a powerful platform for learning and cultural exchange, the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has programmed, within the framework of the Liceu Cambra cycle, a series of concerts where classical music and different disciplines come together to explore new forms of artistic expression. The proposal is led by the professor and Head of the String Department, Corrado Bolsi, and will be articulated around the figure of an expert in the subject to be treated and the performance of an ensemble formed by students and professors of the Conservatori Liceu, which allows both groups to share the same stage space.
In this first proposal, with the collaboration of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia, we will immerse ourselves in a profound dialogue between two art forms that define our aesthetic and physical experience: Music and Architecture.
We will blur the boundaries between music and architecture, placing ourselves at the frontier of both disciplines and exploring the architectural space of musical instruments. The Conservatori Liceu Live Room, with its dynamic atmosphere and advanced technology, will provide the perfect setting for this experience. The participants will have the opportunity to enter the interior of musical instruments and discover different sonic and architectural spaces, discovering different music through the centuries, from the classical and symmetrical lines of the Renaissance to the organic and contemporary forms of the 20th century, surrounded by light, sound, textures, dynamics, voids and different materialities.
PRESENTER: GERARD GUERRA LÓPEZ
Architect, musician and researcher specialising in the intersection between music and architecture, a field he calls “musitecture”. He studied at the ETSAB and also holds a degree in classical and contemporary music in piano performance, from the ESMUC. He then continued his training at the Conservatori Liceu and the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona.
His research on the symbiosis between music and architecture has been presented at numerous international conferences and events. His most important publications include the article “Musitecture: Musical Space, Spatial Music. Sonorous thresholds in time-space intersections”, published by Springer, and “The interpreter before the text: a passerby in sonorous-spatial promenades. Musical narrative and promenade architecturale” and “Growth through transformation”.
He currently works as an architect at the Barcelona Municipal Institute for Housing and Rehabilitation (IMHAB) – Barcelona City Council, and at the same time he combines his own activity of architecture and music with the research and dissemination of “musitecture”, linked to international research groups. He has also been coordinator of the Open Group of Architecture and Music of the Association of Architects of Catalonia (COAC) since its creation in 2020, where he promotes dialogue between these two disciplines.
