Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts is synonymous with great music and musical wisdom shared by the greatest performers and creators. This concert series reaches its ninth edition this year, reaffirming itself as one of the most interesting initiatives of its kind, and, as always expected, a meeting point for the students of the Higher Center of the Liceu Conservatory with the great international masters, and as an appointment for music lovers from Barcelona with the best music.
Theo Plath is a German bassoonist born in Koblenz. His excellence with the bassoon has earned him several accolades and opportunities in his musical career.
In 2018, Theo won the prestigious Deutsche Musikwettbewerb, which helped him stand out in the world of classical music. The following year, he was selected to be represented by the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT), an organization that seeks to promote and support emerging talents.
As a soloist, Theo has had the opportunity to perform with prestigious orchestras such as the Munich Chamber, the Dortmunder Philharmoniker, the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, and the Beethoven Orchester Bonn. In 2019, he had the chance to record a solo CD with the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, which was released with the Genuin classics label in 2020.
In addition to his solo career, Theo has also been recognized as the principal bassoonist of the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra since 2018. He has had the opportunity to work as a guest principal bassoonist with leading orchestras such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the WDR Sinfonieorchester, and the Hessiche Rundfunk.
Theo Plath’s talent and dedication have been acknowledged with several awards throughout his career. These include the 1st Prize at the Gasteig Competition in Munich in 2014, the Aeolus Wind Competition in 2012, the Crusell Competition in Finland in 2011, and the Hummel Competition in Wurzburg in 2011.
During his years of study, Theo has had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses with renowned professors such as Klaus Thunemann and Sergio Azzolini. Additionally, he has received numerous scholarships, including the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund awards, which have allowed him to continue developing his talent and passion for classical music.
Since 2016, Theo has also been involved in the Rhapsody in School project, founded by Lars Vogt. Through this project, he brings classical music to children throughout Germany, sharing his passion and knowledge with future generations.
