Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts is an emblem of musical excellence and a meeting point for the exchange of knowledge with some of the most outstanding performers and creators on the international scene. In this tenth edition, the cycle reaffirms itself as one of the most relevant initiatives in its field, once again becoming a reference space for students of the Conservatori Liceu and renowned masters, as well as an unmissable event for music lovers in Barcelona who seek to enjoy the highest quality artistic performances.
This masterclass will be taught by José Sebastião Trigo, a Portuguese double bassist and music teacher of great international renown. Known for his technical skill and his ability to convey emotional depth through the double bass, he has been a key figure in the world of classical and contemporary music. Trigo is recognized not only for his abilities as a soloist but also for his active participation in various prestigious orchestras.
He began his musical studies at the age of eleven under the tutelage of Alexandre Samardjiev. In 2019 he graduated from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim with Petru Iuga and in 2022 he obtained his master’s degree with Dorin Marc in Nuremberg. He has also received inspiration in masterclasses with Janne Saksala, Ödön Racz, Stanislav Anischenko and Gunars Upatnieks.
While still a student, he has gained orchestral experience as a member of the EUYO, the GMJO and as a substitute in the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Georgian Chamber Orchestra in Ingolstadt and the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra in Heilbronn. In 2018/2019 he was an academician of the Cologne Radio Orchestra (WDR Sinfonieorchester) and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
He holds several awards, including first prize at the “Galicia Graves” Competition, first prize at the “S. Koussevitzky” International Competition 2016, second prize (1st not awarded) at the “G. Bottesini” International Competition in 2019, second prize and audience prize at the “J. M. Sperger” International Competition in 2022, first prize at the Markneukirchen International Competition in 2023 and 3rd prize at the ARD International Competition in the same year.
Since 2019 he has been a member of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (co-principal) and since 2021 assistant professor at the Music University in Mannheim.
