Jan Ype Nota began his cello studies with Jyri Prchal in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, and studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he obtained his performing diploma with Jean Decroos and continued his studies in London.
In the Netherlands he was a soloist with various orchestras, including under the direction of Frans Brüggen.
He also participates in various ensembles as a chamber musician. Jan Ype Nota is a well-known cellist in Holland and many of his students have been awarded in International Competitions.
He is conductor and artistic director of the Haydn Youth String Orchestra, reserve conductor of the Northern Netherlands Orchestra, and also chief professor of cello at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen.
