Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts is synonymous with great music and musical wisdom shared by the greatest performers and creators. This concert series reaches its eighth edition this year, reaffirming itself as one of the most interesting initiatives of its kind, and, as always expected, a meeting point for the students of the Higher Center of the Liceu Conservatory with the great international masters, and as an appointment for music lovers from Barcelona with the best music.
French-Swiss flutist Emmanuel Pahud began studying music at the age of six. He graduated in 1990 with the first prize from the Paris Conservatory, and continued to study with A. Nicolet. He won first prize at the Duino, Kobe and Geneva competitions, and at the age of 22 he joined the Berlin Philharmonic as principal flute under C. Abbado, a position he still holds today. In addition, he enjoys an extensive international career as a soloist and chamber musician.
Pahud regularly performs in major concert cycles, festivals and orchestras around the world. He has collaborated as a soloist with directors such as Abbado, Antonini, Barenboim, Boulez, Fischer, Gergiev, Gardiner, Harding, Järvi, Maazel, Nézét-Séguin, Orozco-Estrada, Perlman, Pinnock, Rattle, Rostropovich and Zinman.
A lover of chamber music, he often gives recitals with pianists E. Le Sage, A. Bax, Y. Bronfman, H. Grimaud and S. Kovacevich, as well as playing jazz with J. Terrasson and performing and recording with Les Vents Français quintet. Committed to expanding the flute repertoire, he commissions new works each year from composers such as E. Carter, M-A. Dalbavie, T. Escaich, T. Hosokawa, M. Jarrell, P. Manoury, M. Pintscher, C. Rivet, E. Montalbetti, and L. Francesconi.
Pahud has recorded 40 albums exclusively on the EMI/Warner Classics label, all to unanimous reviews and numerous awards. He was honoured as Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contribution to music, and is an HonRAM (member of honour) of the Royal Academy of Music in London.
