Trained at the Conservatori Liceu with Carmen Bracons and in Milan with Vladimiro Badiali, he made his international debut in 1967 with “L’elisir d’amore” at the Teatro Comunale de Reggio Emilia, after winning the Acchille Peri International Singing Competition, also in Italy. This musical work became one of his specialties, along with other roles by Donizetti, Mozart, Cimarosa, Duni, Verdi and Bellini, thus developing a brilliant operatic career as a light-lyrical tenor that has taken him to the main stages of Spain and over the world, such as the Scala in Milan, where he has performed, in addition to “L’Elisir d’amore”, “Cenerentola”, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”, “La cambiale di matrimonial”, “Il Re pastore”, “Il matrimonial segreto”, “Il Viaggio a Reims”, “Albert Herring”, “Les Troyens” and “Le Nozze di Figaro”. He has also participated in the most prestigious opera festivals.
He also made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu with “L’elisir d’amore” in 1970 and since then he has performed numerous titles, including “Linda di Chamonix”, “Maria Stuarda” with Montserrat Caballé, “Don Pasquale”, “Il Matrimonio Segreto”, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”, “La Cenerentola”, “Semiramide”, “Don Giovanni”, “Così fan Tutte”, “Don Gil de Alcalá”, “Song of Love and War”, “El Llibre Vermell de Montserrat”, “Le Nozze di Figaro”, “Eugene Onegin” and “Billy Budd”.
He has also sung under the direction of prestigious directors such as Claudio Abbado, Georges Prêtre, Charles Mackerras, Bruno Bartoletti, Alberto Erede, Antoni Ros Marbà, Bruno Campanella and under the stage direction of Jean-Pierre Ponnelle, Maurice Bejart, Luca Ronconi and Pier Luigi Pizza.
Among his numerous record productions, the recordings of “Il Viaggio a Reims” (with twelve international awards for the best opera album of the year) “Don Pasquale”, “La Sonnambula” and “Le Nozze di Figaro” stand out.
