Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts represents musical excellence and a meeting point for the exchange of knowledge among the world’s leading performers and creators. In this tenth edition, the series reaffirms itself as one of the most important initiatives of its kind, once again becoming a much-anticipated space for students of the Conservatori Liceu and internationally renowned masters. Furthermore, it is an unmissable event for music lovers in Barcelona, where they can enjoy the best live music.
This masterclass will be taught by Dolora Zajick, an American mezzo-soprano, recognized for her powerful voice and intense performances in dramatic and demanding roles. Hailed as a ‘force of nature’ (Variety), she has been enshrined internationally as that rare voice type, a true Verdian dramatic mezzo-soprano, typified by the composer’s most famous and difficult mezzo-soprano roles.
With her expressive vocal palette, seamless technique, and ability to communicate even the most complex character, Ms. Zajick is particularly renowned for her interpretations of Azucena in Il trovatore, Amneris in Aida, and Eboli in Don Carlo on the world’s greatest stages. She has appeared in opera and concert with some of the foremost conductors of today, including Antonio Pappano, Bruno Bartoletti, James Conlon, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev, Lorin Maazel, Charles Mackerras, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Michael Tilson Thomas and Mstislav Rostropovich.
Ms. Zajick’s extensive discography features recordings of Aida, Il trovatore, Don Carlo, Alexander Nevsky, Hérodiade, La forza del destino, the Verdi Requiem, Rusalka, and “Dolora Zajick: The Art of the Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano”. DVDs include multiple live productions of Aida, Don Carlo, and Il trovatore.
A passionate vocal pedagogue, she founded the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices in 2006. A training program for large or unusual voices, it is designed to help nurture and develop young singers according to their unique needs, and to help them reach the world stage.
