The Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts series presents a selection of some of the best masterclasses taught by internationally renowned figures in the fields of creation and performance. In this tenth edition, it solidifies itself as a leading pedagogical and artistic initiative, offering students of the Conservatori Liceu the opportunity to connect with the most recognized masters, while also becoming an essential meeting point for music lovers in Barcelona.
This masterclass will be taught by the trumpet player Bertold Stecher, an internationally renowned performer, known for his technique and versatility across various repertoires. In addition to his career as a soloist, he is a well-known professor and mentor to young talents.
He grew up in the Vinschgau Valley in South Tyrol (Italy), a region with a strong tradition of brass music, which led him to begin learning the trumpet at the age of ten. He received his training at the Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium under Lothar Hilbrand and at the Mozarteum University under Hans Gensch, and he has been a member of the EUYO, the GMJO, the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival Orchestra, as well as the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra.
He began his professional career in 2012 as principal trumpet in the Bolzano Haydn Orchestra and has made guest appearances in principal positions with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Orchestra of La Scala Milan, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, among others. In 2017, he became principal trumpet in the orchestra of Deutsche Oper Berlin, and from there moved to the position of second trumpet with the Berliner Philharmoniker in August 2022.
He is very welcome as a guest and has performed with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, the NDR Elbphilharmonieorchester, the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the World Orchestra for Peace, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Rome, the Teatro alla Scala Milano, the Teatro la Fenice di Venezia.
He is also committed to chamber music and ensemble playing and has been a member of the brass formation PROBrass since 2011.
Since 2022 he is professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock.
