Xavi Torres studied in Tarragona and Barcelona with professors such as Lluís Vidal, Albert Bover and Joan Díaz. He has also studied both Jazz and Classical Piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, with David Kuyken and Harmen Fraanje as teachers, among others. He has received masterclasses from leading musicians such as Fred Hersch, Ambrose Akinmusire, Mark Turner, Miguel Zenon, Avishai Cohen and Maria Schneider.
In Amsterdam he has had the opportunity to collaborate with great musicians such as Dick Oatts, Terell Stafford, Ben van Gelder, Reinier Baas, Tineke Postma, Raynald Colom, Horacio Fumero, Jasper Blom or Nir Felder (with whom he has appeared on Dutch public television).
He has released more than 20 CDs and has achieved notable success with his first album as a leader entitled ¨Skyline¨, with his own group, Xavi Torres Trio (with Vic Moliner, double bass, and Joan Terol, drums), published by the Seed label. Music Records.
Xavi Torres Trio has been awarded as “Best Group of the year 2015” by the Association of Jazz and Modern Music Musicians of Catalonia (AMJM). It was also a finalist in the categories of best album and best composer in the same contest. Among other awards he has received, it is worth noting that he has won the most prestigious competition in the Netherlands, the “Dutch Jazz Competition 2016” and the “Keep An Eye International Jazz Award 2015”, a contest in which he had already won the award for best soloist.
In recent years he has played in countries such as the USA, South Africa, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Morocco or Andorra, and in festivals such as the Dixieland in Tarragona (where he gave a concert with Perico Sambeat and Llibert Fortuny), the North Sea Jazz Fest, Gracthen Festival, Grahamstown Jazz Festival, Bimhuis, Amsterdam JazzFest, Siena Jazz Festival, etc.
He has worked as a substitute piano teacher at the Amsterdam Conservatory and has taught at the Grahamstown Seminary, in South Africa.
