Nieves Aliaño is an assistant flutist with the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra and a member of the SenArts Quintet, with whom she performs extensively.
She was born in Jerez de la Frontera, where she completed her Professional Degree in Flute. In 2013, she began her postgraduate studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), under the tutelage of Professor Vicens Prats. Upon completing these, she went on to study for a Master’s in Performance at the Hochschule für Musik Basel with Professor Félix Renggli. In 2020, she joined the Akademie of the Philharmonia Zürich at the Opernhaus Zürich.
In 2021, she was appointed assistant flutist with the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra, where she currently performs. Throughout her career, she has been a member of youth orchestras such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra, JONDE (Spanish National Youth Orchestra) and NJO (Netherlands Youth Orchestra), and has performed with ensembles including the Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Neues Orchester Basel, the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia Zürich and the ADDA Simfònica, amongst others.
As a member of the SenArts Quintet, she has been awarded second prize at the Carl Nielsen International Competition (2023), third prize and the BR-KLASSIK Online Prize at the ARD Musikwettbewerb (2024), as well as the Montserrat Alavedra First Prize (2024). With this ensemble, she has taken part in festivals such as the Torroella de Montgrí Festival, the Davos Festival, the Barcelona Obertura Festival, the Cervera Easter Festival and the Angular Cambra Festival in Sant Cugat. She has also performed at prestigious venues such as the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Ateneo in Madrid, the Auditori Enric Granados in Lleida, the Auditori Viader in Girona, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, DR Byen Studio 2 at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, The Queen’s Hall at the Royal Library in Copenhagen, and the Concert Hall of the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
In the field of education, he has given masterclasses in chamber music at the Liceu Conservatory, the Aragón Higher Conservatory of Music, and the Lleida Conservatory, Institut Escola Artística Oriol Martorell, amongst other institutions.
