Maria Camahort

Complementary

Maria Camahort is a guitarist, composer and teacher with a solid artistic and teaching career spanning a variety of musical contexts.

Through her solo projects and various collaborations, Maria has performed at leading concert halls both at home and abroad: London (Milton Court, Southbank Centre, Kings Place), Paris (Salle Cortot), St Petersburg (Glasunov Hall), Moscow (Scriabin Museum), Warsaw (Lutosławski Hall), Kraków, Hamburg (Elbphilharmonie), Barcelona (L’Auditori, Palau de la Música), Madrid (Círculo de Bellas Artes), Brussels (European Commission), Mexico City, Chicago, Bethlehem (USA) and Auckland (NZ).

She currently combines her career as a performer with her work as a composer. She has been awarded second prize in the 1st Llobet Composition Competition for Guitar, second prize in the 3rd María de Pablos International Composition Competition (Don Juan de Borbón Foundation), first prize in the 4th María de Pablos International Competition, and has been selected by the SGAE Foundation for its premiere grants for 2020, 2021 and 2025, as well as for the Research and Innovation Grants from the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia for 2024. Her work for string quartet, “Nóos”, was premiered at the FIAS 2021 festival (Madrid), performed by the Bauhaus Quartet. In 2022, she transcribed Enric Escudé-Cofiner’s work for guitar duo, published by Editorial Boileau. He is currently collaborating with the Cofiner Foundation and JSM Records on a project involving arrangements for solo guitar of songs composed by Enric Escudé-Cofiner. To date, his compositions for guitar and chamber music have been performed in Spain, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Her recording projects include: Iberian Colors (2015, Convivium Records International), Danzas, Canciones y Nanas (2018, JSM Records), Keep My Cows, SXVI and XVII Revisited, recorded with pianist and improviser Carles Marigó, and Somorrostro, el mar baila en la playa, in collaboration with guitarist Anders Clemens Oien.

As an educator, during her time (2008–2017), she worked at various British institutions using educational systems such as ABRSM, Trinity College and Coloustrings. As a coordinator and teacher at the Emilio Molina Institute of Music Education, she has gained solid experience in teacher training, leadership, the management of educational projects and academic outreach through conferences and presentations. She currently works as an instrumental teacher and educational coordinator at the Badalona Professional Conservatory of Music, and as a teacher of Music Theory at the Santa Coloma de Gramenet Municipal School of Music.
