José Benítez, also known as Hoss Benítez, is a musician and drummer, born in Algeciras (Cádiz) and based in Barcelona, internationally recognized for his work with artists such as BIG MENU, Nathy Peluso, Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso, Braxton Cook, Rels B, Dano, Delaossa, and Cruz Cafuné, among many others. He has also collaborated with artists from a range of styles including Diego Amador, Chano Domínguez, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Javier Ruibal, Kiko Veneno, Raynald Colom, Xavi Torres, and Lluc Casares, among others.
In 2024 he took part in one of the most important and prestigious percussion festivals in the world, the Tam Tam Drum Fest, alongside drummers of the caliber of Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, Stanton Moore, and Nathaniel Townsley, among others.
He currently works with El Kanka, with whom he has been touring across Europe and Latin America for eight years and has contributed to the recording of El Kanka’s last three albums. Together with DJ Swet he forms the duo 1987; in 2024 they released their self-titled project, 1987, and are working on future projects.
He has studied with masters such as Aldo Caviglia, Juan de la Oliva, Johnny Vidacovich, Ramon Prats, Gergo Borlai, and Gregory Hutchinson.
He holds a degree in Drums (Jazz and Modern Music) from the Liceu Conservatory of Music, finishing his studies with the 2015 Extraordinary Prize in the Jazz and Modern Music category.
