Jordi Matas began his studies in Esparreguera and continued his training alongside José Luis Gámez, Horacio Fumero, Vicens Martín, and Alfons Carrascosa. He has also attended master classes and seminars with Sam Yahel, Benny Golson, Idris Muhammad, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Jordi Bonell, Nasheet Waits, Ben Street, Bruce Barth, Rick Peckam, Ben Monder, and Peter Bernstein.
He has been awarded the Revelation Artist of the Year 2003 and Best Guitarist of the Year 2004 by the Associació de Músics de Jazz i Música Moderna de Catalunya. He won the Injuve 2006 Prize with Albert Sanz and Organics, Ressons 2007 tour with Jordi Matas Quintet.
Among his performances, highlights include La Plata Jazz Festival 2005 in La Plata, Argentina, Jazz Festival Mechelen in Belgium, XXXVII Jazz Getxo, Festijazz 2004 in La Paz, Bolivia, End Art Jazz 2003 in Köln, SpañJazz 2005 in Gran Canaria, Frankfurt JAZZKELLER, and Duc des Lombards in Paris.
Currently, he leads the groups Jordi Matas Organic Trio —with which he has recorded Landscape— Jordi Matas Quintet —with which he has recorded the albums All that Matas and Racons— and HAT —with which he has recorded the album Hi ha—. He has also collaborated with musicians such as Jorge Rossy, Nat Su, Chris Higgins, Joe Smith, Peer Wiborys, Benet Palet, Gorka Benítez, Masa Kamaguchi, Aruan Ortiz, RJ. Miller, Peer Wiborys, Falk Willis, Ike Stubblefield, Alexis Cuadrado, Guillermo Klein, and John Ellis.
