Joan Magrané

Joan Magrané (Reus, 1988) began his composition studies with Ramon Humet and furthered his education in Barcelona with Agustí Charles, in Graz with Beat Furrer, and in Paris with Stefano Gervasoni. He has been a “lauréat” of the Villa Medici (Rome, 2016), a member of the Casa Velázquez (Madrid, 2017/2018), and a composer-in-residence at La Pedrera (Barcelona, 2018/2019), Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona, 2019/2020), CNDM (Madrid, 2020/2021), and L’Auditori (Barcelona, 2021/2022). His works have been performed by Isabelle Faust, Gerard Caussé, Josep Colom, Carlos Mena, Ensemble Intercontemporain, London Sinfonietta, Quatuor Diotima, Graindelavoix, Les éléments, Trio Fortuny, Quartet Gerhard, Kebyart, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Kansas City Symphony, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Franz Schubert Filharmonia, Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya, Orquesta de la RTVE, among others, in venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris, Lucerne Festival, BOZAR in Brussels, Théâtre du Châtelet, Heidelberger Frühling, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real, Festival de Peralada, L’Auditori de Barcelona, Palau de la Música Catalana, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Festival de Torroella, Grand Théâtre de Provence, Fondation Royaumont, and Musée d’Orsay, among others. In 2014, he was awarded the XXXI Reina Sofia Prize for Composition by the Ferrer Salat Music Foundation. His works are published by Éditions Durand and Ficta Edicions.
