Born in Barcelona, Gemma Tatay obtained her intermediate diploma in piano and her advanced diploma in music theory and solfège at the Liceu Conservatory. She also holds a diploma in music teaching from the University of Barcelona. She has studied choral conducting on courses organised by the FCEC and other organisations. Throughout her career, she has conducted both children’s and adult choirs, including the Children’s Choir of the Escola de Música de la Guineu, the Children’s Choir of the Escola de Música Joan Llongueras, the Children’s Choir of the Escola de Música Accent, Cor Tessàlia and Cor Ariadna of the Agrupació Cor Madrigal, which she currently leads. For the past seven years, she has been singing as a soprano in the GAC choir in Barcelona.
As regards her teaching career, she has lectured in music education at the University of Barcelona. She regularly delivers courses in music pedagogy and choral conducting to music teachers and choir directors at universities and organisations in Catalonia and across Spain. During the 2023–24 academic year, she was part of the Escola Coral de l’Orfeó Català as director of the Cor Petits. From September this academic year, she will be a lecturer at the Faculty of Education at Blanquerna–Ramon Llull University.
