Albert Coronado

Viola

Born on January 11, 1996, Albert Coronado Daza began his musical training at the age of 6 at the Enric Granados Music School, located in the Barcelonian town of Sant Joan Despí, with professor Victor Petre specializing in violin and viola. In 2008, he definitively began his career with the viola, under the supervision of the esteemed pedagogue Luis Martínez. He conducted his first master class with professor Ashan Pillai at the Curs de Música de Cervera, a mentor who guided him from his admission to the Conservatori Professional de Música de Badalona in 2009 until he completed his advanced studies and master’s degree, fully funded by the Fundació Ferrer Salat at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu.

Moreover, he has participated in courses such as the Advanced Music Courses of Málaga (2010/2011), Forum Musikae (2013), and Música en Compostela (2015-2017), as well as in masterclasses with Donald McIness, Pauline Sachse, Veronika Hagen, Thomas Riebl, and Hartmut Lindemann, among others. In the summer of 2014, he attended the Gustav Mahler Akademie in Bolzano with professor Wolfram Christ, with whom he took a semester of a master’s program at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in 2018. At the Música en Compostela course (2015), he was awarded the special prize for chamber music and viola.

Albert Coronado Daza has won awards in numerous prestigious national and international competitions, both as a soloist and in chamber music. Notable among these are the Jugend Musiziert competition in Germany (2005-2013), the Concurs de Cordes de Barcelona (2009/2012), the Concurs Arjau (2013), the Certamen Intercentros (2012), the International Viola Competition Villa de Llanes in Asturias (2010/2013), the Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition (2014/2017), Juventudes Musicales de España (2nd Prize, 2014), and the Concurs de Cambra de Barcelona (2014) with the Quartet Colom.

He gave his first solo recitals as an invited guest in Asturias in 2014 in Oviedo and Gijón, followed by tours throughout Spain sponsored by Juventudes Musicales de España (2015-2016). Additionally, he has collaborated with various youth and professional orchestras such as the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (2013/2014), the OBC (Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, 2014 – ), the Orquestra Simfònica de Cadaqués (2015), and the Orquestra Amics de la UNESCO Barcelona (principal viola since 2015). Since 2020, he has been the principal viola of the symphony orchestra of the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona.

He plays a French viola by Alain Carbonare (Mirecourt, 2021) and an Italian viola by Olvino Domini (Rome, 1968), with bows by Christophe Schaeffer (Avignon, 2023) and Montse Solé (Barcelona, 2013).
