Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz has also been honoured and will soon visit the Conservatory to give masterclasses.
The group Las Migas, which includes Laura Pacios, violinist and graduate of the Liceu Conservatory, has won the Latin Grammy for best flamenco album.
The 26th edition of the Latin Grammys took place on 13 November at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Latin Grammys are awarded by the Latin Recording Academy in recognition of artistic and technical excellence in the Latin American music industry, including music created in Latin America, Spain, Portugal and the Latin community in Canada and the United States.
Among the categories awarded annually by the Academy is traditional music, which includes the award for Best Flamenco Album. The group Las Migas won this year’s award for their album Flamencas.
Laura Pacios, born in Madrid, completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Violin in the 2021-2022 academic year, studying under Oriol Saña and Christoph Mallinger. Since 2022, she has been a member of the group Las Migas, with whom she has toured internationally and made several recordings. Las Migas’ previous album, Rumberas, was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2024.
Another Conservatori Liceu graduate, Susana Gómez Vázquez, pianist and composer, was also nominated in this year’s awards for her album Sisters Of The Moon in the Best Classical Music Recording category.
Meanwhile, in the Best Contemporary Classical Work/Composition category, the winner was Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz with ‘Revolución Dinamantina’. Ortiz will offer a masterclass at the Liceu Conservatory this academic year as part of the Liceu Cambra cycle.
