Graduate Elionor Martínez came sixth in the final of the 63rd Tenor Viñas Competition and won first prize in the Oratorio-Lied category, as well as sixth prize. This year, for the first time, the Oratorio-Lied category ran parallel to the Opera category, coinciding only in the final round.
Elionor Martínez, who was a scholarship holder of the Ferrer Music Foundation and a student of Professor Dolors Aldea, was also awarded the Schubert Prize (Schubertíada) at the Viñas Competition, offered by the Franz Schubert Association to the best interpreter of Schubert; the Victoria de los Ángeles Prize, offered by the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation and sponsored by Alma Hotels; the Special Prize, in memory of Max Klein and Madronita Andreu, offered by Villasa S.L. to the best Mozart performer; the Extraordinary Prize, offered by tenor Plácido Domingo, to the best Spanish singer; the Extraordinary Prize, offered respectively by the Moià Town Council and Joventuts Musicals de Moià, to the best Catalan singer; and the Extraordinary Prize, offered by the Town Council of Santa Cristina d’Aro, to the winner of the prize for the best Catalan singer; the Extraordinary Prize, offered by the Cadaqués Music Festival, to the winner of the prize for the best Catalan singer; and the Extraordinary Prize, offered by the Castell de Peralada Festival, to a winner of an Official Prize.
For her part, soprano and graduate of the Liceu Conservatory of Music, Rosa Maria Abella was honoured with the Special Award offered by the Ferrer Music Foundation to six Spanish singers. Former students Mar Esteve, Maria Patak and Marta Roca were winners of the Special Award, offered by Amics del Liceu, to study vocal technique with soprano Luciana Serra.
The International Jury for the 63rd edition of the Tenor Viñas International Singing Competition was made up of Víctor Garcia de Gomar, Artistic Director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Olaf Bär, baritone, James Baillieu, pianist, Alessandro Galoppini, Casting Director at La Scala, Tobias Hasan, Artistic Director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Sophie Joyce, casting director at the Opéra National de Paris (ONP), Peter Mario Katona, casting director at ROH Covent Garden, Erik Malmquist, casting director at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Joan Matabosch, artistic director of the Teatro Real in Madrid, and Luciana Serra, soprano.
